JOY N SHIT (No. 3), 2010

JOY N SHIT (No. 3), 2010
mixed media on found images on masonite
24"x24"

And so the JOY N SHIT series moves on. I am so fond of this image of the soccer player created from the source material of a photo of my daughter playing soccer. But I am just as fond of the image of the star...the numbers bar is from a board game, and I've been holding on to it for probably over five years. Not sure if it really adds to the painting, but there it is...feedback welcomed.

I really dig this one. The torn/indistinct ground manages to have alot going on, and the words and images stand out because they are almost poisonously vibrant -- especially "shit." I do like the number bar, it recalls the color test strips you find on the tabs of cereal boxes and such. I feel like it bridges between the found images and the bright colors of the paint. The only thing I'm confused by is the small circle in the letter "H."

The white orb in the H is the soccer ball at the foot of the soccer player. It looks more 3D in live time, but is also intentionally left to look a little flat...

cool stuff. i really like the soccer ball. to me, it ties everything together, it's a soccer ball, a number, or a dot for the "i."
