New Series/New Ideas

For the longest time, I've been thinking about how to incorporate technology into process. I'm done thinking about it. In this new series of three panel artworks on paper, I'm creating an 8"x8" painting on paper, then creating an 8"x8" abstraction on patterned paper with software and inkjet printer, then scanning the original painting and tweaking, flipping and enhancing it in Photoshop before printing an 8"x8" image on paper with inkjet printer.

These can be displayed horizontally or vertically: top image is the Photoshopped image; middle image is the abstraction created with Publisher; bottom image is the original painting. All pieces 8"x8". Untitled at this point.

All feedback welcome. Don't spare my feelings.

Denim Jacket by Tim Lane

Some time btwn 2002-2004, I stenciled the head of the Statue of Liberty (in black) on the back of this jacket, and sprayed the collar pink. Now, that older meditation on the freedom of expression (read emotion minus repression) has been merged with my recent meditation on the possibility of our embracing of "the rest of the world's game" aiding in the creation of a genuine global village.

i had a blast with this one
and i stopped myself before i ruined it (imop)
i started with the silkscreen pattern and ended with some airbrush and oil paint.
im open to criticism, what do you think of it, the airbrush parts and the patterned parts?
does it jibe?

newest big chriper.
just tryin to have fun,
i dont like canvas, and during this piece i realized this temporary truth again and again.
i wish the color was slightly different, might rework at some point, make it a little more solid.
might start collaging these things soon
40x44 acrlyic and oil on canvas

nother watercolor large port.

i love the large passages of watercolor.
i may just start abstract versions of them, but i have been saying that for a while. the hair here was not the direction i was planning, but watercolor has its own agenda and i had to make lemonade.

MOls

heres my new mol portrait,
i have been getting real comfortable with painting and just showing up and making something, lately. im not sure it translates exactly, but maybe its just a stage of digesting last years experimentation and getting used to the tools ive bought.
looking back at this piece i like the idea of a color field portrait. the shirt area reminds me of matisse . with this approach to the face, i just keep layering color until it looks right.

more birds

these are my most recent large watercolors.
though i have done nearly 10 more little birds and a large acrylic and oil since.
i have been pretty productive, and the birds give me alot to chew on.
i would love to know what yall think about these
they go back and forth in their potency but i dont show the ones i dont like here or at the gallery.
for me, the birds are a great excuse to make an abstraction, or as close as i can get at this point to something interesting in that color field and reinterpretation of an image format i like so much.

workin on some portraits now, got balloon fiesta kickin so its crazy in my neck of the woods, not to mention the other stuff.

weird shit

i had a weird dream where the revolutionary war was happing in a few different periods/places at once and all the solders had on nike airs. these are all acrylic on 20"x25" paper...the painting up top i kinda left unfinished cause i got real sick of these paintings and they just seem kinda...dorky. i just needed a break from the other stuff i was doin' and soon i'm gonna get back into it. also i changed around my jeremycouillard.com if you have any advice on how to make it prettier/more user friendly please lemmie know.
are we still doin' this lightgeist thing? been pretty scarce lately...

abstract stuff

i just had to get this outta my system...i was messing around with more transparent gel colors and stuff making these squares. there're actually 6 of them but i accidently photographed the same one twice and now it's dark and i don't feel like getting the 6th...you get the idea anyway. they're acrylic on 12"x12" wood...
the top piece was me peeling the paint off the tape i used to make the squares and putting it in a container and then i organized it in a grid and put medium over it so they all stick there. i have enough to make one more i'll probably do later.

i had to scan this in pieces, might need training from nate again on how to make it seamless...
anyway. didnt have a camera, this was the best bird i have made in my opinion. wanted to share it.

fat beat factory

Fat Beat Factory 48"x48" acrylic and tape on canvas over panel

so mostly i wanna know two things...1) i left the chairs incomplete. what do you think? 2) what do you really think about the lack of perspective? i find perspective real boring and tedious and plus i like the dizzying feeling of the rooms w/out it so i don't use it. but do the paintings suffer? would these be better in perspective?
any other feedback always appreciated!!

the floor didn't photograph too well...i first used a bronze iridescent and then splashed blue and red paint on with a toothbrush and then put a fat glaze with a little interference blue on top of that...it's hard to see in the photo.

bbbbbbbbeeerdsssss

so , heres a recent installment
the top is a watercolor 20x20 ish
the bottom is an acrylic/oil 32x49 framed

in my watercolors i recently found these orbs interesting,
though im really watching myself not to get too formulaic
in my recent bird work, the next installment, im trying to scale back the complexity
well , see,
the bottom piece was fun and chirpful, im realizing i shine a bit more on a hard surface
i hate the bounce of canvas (which im currently battling with, and i knew i shouldnt have started it) so i think im going to just work on paper and board until i need to try textured bounce again.
im still trying to riff-it and come up with new and authentic approaches, as i said, once i find something that works, i usually forget to use the mind i was previously using when i was discovering and falling back to my formulas
which need to be balanced by sponetneity
imop.
thats a constant battle in my work
it slightly applys to these pieces

little things

these are all about 11"x11" on wood...in acrylic with some tape in most of'um. the wood cutter at lowes was out of service so i couldn't make big stretchers for a few weeks so i bought some wood and hack sawed it apart and made these while i waited for the hardware store to fix their big ass saw.
