small medium large of july these birds keep me inventing and inspired. working with minor wrist and arm pain from gaming and painting nate told me to take salty baths
i like the big oil one the best cause it's a little different from the usual birds you do. i like how instead of washes in the background you have brush strokes...i really like those whitish brush strokes...i like the black lines that make diamond shapes to then kind of make a nest like thing. i think you really have this vision down...it makes me feel like i'm in this enchanted world of beautiful women and birds flying all around me. or like the women turn into birds because sometimes pretty ladies fly around in your head like birds, you know? have you ever thought of doing butterflies?? they would fit good in this world you have. there is definitely a magic vibe that i'm starting to feel that i don't think i felt before...
i feel like with the oil/acrylic you have a lot more exploring room to do. maybe you could try to use thicker paint to contrast with the thin stuff or just do whatever else comes to you...more tape for hard edges, do some peter doigish washes with oil medium to give a different wash effect... in the oil one you're doing similar stuff you do with watercolor just in oil/acrylic but since it's a different medium there's probably a lot more to explore....and another thing looking at the oil...the colors aren't as crisp as in the watercolor paintings...how do you do the oil? do you do them all in one sitting? or do you let the oil dry and layer it a little?
the big guy was sooo fun, i just threw what i knew at it and enjoyed the ride. im always looking for ways to make color more interesting in oil and acrylic because my watercolors always outshine through transparency and technique. so im always looking for advice on them. in this case though, i think it might be a camera issue, since i scanned the watercolors and used a pocked digi for the big bird. it would be neat to come up with a technique idea book or website hosted by the blogpeople here. or an artist calender 365 days of art ideas. particularly, im interested in technique, my favorite paintings are always a synthesis of wierd polarities. my stomach is bigger than my support. i try to put it all in the big bird has a few thick areas. i did most of the piece in acrylic in my 100 degree garage then i did a single magenta glaze with turb damar and galkyd. any more suggestions? and thanks
