oil portrait

Here's the finished piece. I took this crappy first photo in class with my iPhone, so I'll take a better shot and replace it. I'm happy with it overall, but there are a couple of drawing issues that bother me and other minor things I'd like to fix up. I'd be worried to do anything else without reference, though, so it'll probably stay just like this. I learned a lot with this piece, so I'm looking forward to doing another. I've never painted something so small and complex as this face, but there's something fun about painting tiny details.

my favorite part about this is how the warm light on the left is so intense. it makes it look like she's about to be warped to another dimension or have a spiritual experience or something. you're so freaking talented you should be doing like one of these a DAY! the more you do from life the easier i think it will be to do stuff from pictures or off your computer or just from nothing. i'm pretty blown away by your skill man!

It's very beautiful. I really like that warm light too. What are the dimensions? Are you going to do more like this?

Thanks, guys! This was the piece where I really got to explore color relationships. I saw my teacher's show a second time on Saturday. He's so fuggin good. You look closely at the model's skin and it's blue and violet, but you step back, and because of the warm colors next to it, it looks natural. Crazy shit.

I'm gonna do some more painting and drawing with him this summer and again next school year. Also might do some self portraits this summer.

cant wait till you get setup in your new place to do the self portraits...

im super impressed

so for now just keep honing this skill then maybe pull it into your more specific vision of the stylized cartoon/realism?
either way
keep on these tracks

I think I tried to leave a comment about this earlier, but it didn't post and I've lost that train of thought. It's a great figure though, seems to have quite the confident gaze.
